Following Dick Advocaat’s decision not to extend his contract after the end of the season after escaping relegation, the search begins yet again for a new man at the helm.

Sunderland will be searching for their fifth manager in just over 2 years, following Martin O’Neill, Paolo Di Canio, Gus Poyet and Advocaat, which is too big a turnover for any club.

Favorite for the job at the bookie’s is Sam Allardyce, but also a lot of interest in Paul Clement, who was Carlo Ancelloti’s assistant at Real Madrid.

Also names such as Steve McClaren, Michael Laudrup and a return to Britain for David Moyes has been mentioned in some quarters.

Whoever gets the role, has a squad of players who need some reinforcements, also a squad who needs someone to get around them and work to boost confidence and morale as they were very poor the season just gone.

Writers Prediction – For reasons set out above, I feel they need an experienced manager who can galvanize all at the club and start a project to get improvements season on season, with limited funds, so all pulling in same direction. For me, that would be Sam Allardyce.
