Louis van Gaal has shortlisted two strikers to improve his attacking options ahead of next season, but he must decide on Edinson Cavani or Harry Kane.

Having struggled to get the best out of Colombian Radamel Falcao and Dutch striker Robin van Persie this season, Van Gaal is desperate to provide Wayne Rooney with a suitable strike partner.

United have solely relied on Rooney this season, although at times the England international has been forced to play in a more deeper role.

A number of options have come to the forefront for Van Gaal with Cavani and Kane both at the top of his shortlist.

Cavani is known to be unhappy at Parc des Princes with Paris Saint Germain, whilst Kane is tipped for big things with Real Madrid being linked earlier this season.

However, United officials have told the former Dutch national boss that he must select one of the aforementioned, as they seek other transfer targets this summer.

The likelihood is that United will table an offer for Kane, having signed players from Spurs before, in such cases – Dimitar Berbatov.
