Argentina hitman lifts lid on injury

Aguero

Manchester City star Sergio Aguero has sparked speculation that he could yet play a part in Argentina’s World Cup campaign.

The injury-prone forward left the field early on in the group stage clash with Nigeria after sustaining the latest in a series of muscle ailments, and he is almost certain to miss tomorrow’s knock-out showdown with Switzerland.

His lengthy absences for City last season led to the belief that his fresh setback would rule him out for the rest of the tournament in Brazil, depriving talisman Lionel Messi of his first-choice strike partner.

However, Aguero has used social media to give his supporters an update on the situation and he has seemingly not ruled out featuring for the national side again this summer, if they progress in the competition.

He said on Twitter: “A full recovery in the works! Thank you all for the support and affection. And to further encourage the selection. Come on Argentina!”

The 26-year-old managed to score 28 goals in all competitions during the 2013-14 campaign despite his fitness issues.

Problems with his hamstring, calf and thigh saw him sidelined for up to a month at a time, leaving the Blues to rely on Bosnia hitman Edin Dzeko during their successful Premier League title run-in.
