United striker dismisses rift report

Hernandez

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has dismissed reports that he has discussed the future of Mexico head coach Miguel Herrera with the press.

The 26-year-old has reacted angrily to suggestions that he entered into a conversation on or off the record about his national side’s boss, who guided them to the first knock-out stage of the World Cup in Brazil.

They crashed out of the competition yesterday after a dramatic 2-1 defeat at the hands of Holland, who are coached by Hernandez’s new club manager Louis van Gaal.

The Mexicans were leading the contest 1-0 with only four minutes remaining, only to concede last-gasp goals from Wesley Sneijder and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Afterwards pint-sized forward Hernandez used social media to deny ever having talked to news agency EFE about the status of Herrera, who has four years remaining on his contract.

He said on Twitter: “I just found a note that says I talked about the continuity of Miguel – this ‘interview’ does not exist.

“It is a shame that it was invented and you want to create uncomfortable situations in a group as united as this!”

Hernandez must now turn his attention to a potentially pivotal season in his career, as he battles United forwards Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck for a place in the side.
