Manchester United have emerged as contenders for Benfica winger Salvio’s signature, joining Liverpool with their interest, according to Record.

Liverpool have missed out on Memphis Depay this summer after Premier League rivals Man United completed a deal for the Dutchman and they have reportedly turned their attention to Salvio.

However, before Reds fans get carried away – United are also interested and have now starting a bidding war for the Benfica winger.

Salvio has a buy-out clause believes to be in the region of £28m and it was reported that Liverpool had made tentative contact last week.

The Argentine winger has made over 100 appearances for Benfica and has appeared for the Argentine national side.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen for the winger to come in and add extra fire power for next season, whilst United boss Louis van Gaal is keen to replace Angel Di Maria, who looks set to join Paris Saint Germain on a loan deal.

His 13 goals and 11 assists last season for Benfica make him a good signing for either United or Liverpool.
