Costa Rica will now face Netherlands in the World Cup quarter finals after a superb 5-3 penalty shoot-out win over Greece on Sunday evening.
The Central Americans started the game well and they could have been ahead after just five minutes after the impressive Bryan Ruiz came close following some neat work from Christian Bolanos.
Moments later and the European side would get a hold of the game, Lazaros Christodoulopoulos beat two men as he cut inside from the left wing, before sending his effort just wide of the post.
Greece would then have another great chance as experienced Giorgos Karagounis came close but Keylor Navas would prove to be in superb form.
Navas would again be on hand to keep the score at 0-0 as he denied Dimitris Salpingidis.
The Levante keeper was in superb form and would ultimately prove to be the match winner later in the evening but not before Bryan Ruiz gave Costa Rica the lead seven minutes after half-time.
Defender Oscar Duarte was then sent off, giving Greece a way back into the game and they eventually grabbed an equaliser through centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
A stalemate in extra-time saw the game go to penalties and it looked like it could be a long night after the first seven penalties were perfectly scored, but Navas would then produce the goods, before Michael Umana stepped up to score the winning spot kick.
