According to reports in the Daily Mirror today, Liverpool are linked with Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

The 25 year old has come out and said would like to stay at Real and fight for his place, however has stated would like more game time and at a club like Real this will be difficult.

Illarmendi who Real bought from Real Sociedad in July 2013 for £22 million pounds, would be an excellent acquisition for Liverpool in my opinion, has a great range of passing and his natural game is to sit in front of his defence and provide protection which Liverpool certainly need protection for that defence.

I feel that with Illramendi sitting this would allow Jordan Henderson and Emre Can the freedom to push further forward and support the likes of Lallana, Coutinho and Sturridge (when fit).

Many Liverpool fans may feel this player is not the world class name to replace Gerrard that a Pogba, Vidal or a Khedira is, but I feel with no Champions League, transfer fees/ wages not a match for a few clubs out there, or the massive pulling power the name Liverpool used to have, fans need to be a bit more realistic.
