Real Madrid have contacted Jorge Mendes and want the super-agent to broker the deal with Manchester United.
According to reports in the Mirror, alarm bells will be ringing at Old Trafford as the end of season parties die down as Mendes looks to bring the on-going transfer saga surrounding David De Gea to an end.
Florentino Perez is now desperate to bring De Gea to Madrid as a long-term replacement for goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas but talks do not seem to be progressing. As a result, Madrid have called in Mendes for a meeting at the Bernabeu and De Gea will be the focus of the talks.
Mendes has orchestrated some of the most high-profile transfers of recent years and if anyone can bring De Gea to Spain, it’s him.
Manchester United value De Gea at £30million, but his contract runs out in 12 months and has has shown no signs that he will sign another. This will affect his value and Madrid will use the contractual stalemate to get themselves a bargain price for the young goalkeeper that is likely to be around the £20million mark.
De Gea has been in fantastic form this season for United and fans will hate to see such a young player leave the club for a relatively small fee, but it would leave a much worse taste if he were to walk out of Old Trafford next season for nothing. United have accepted the fact they will have to cash-in on one of their prized assets now.
