Robin van Persie could be set to leave Manchester United for Qatar side Lekhwiya, according to Mail on Sunday.

Van Persie has been a far shadow of himself this season at Old Trafford, despite many believing he would prosper under former Netherlands national coach Louis van Gaal.

The former Arsenal striker has been a shadow of his past self, scoring just 10 goals in all competitions.

Italian side Inter Milan have been interested, whilst a move to Fenerbahce has been reported with some claims stating that he has spoken to both Wesley Sneijder and Dirk Kuyt about life in Turkey.

The Dutch striker sat down with United officials earlier this week to discuss next season and was told that he would have to settle for a place on the bench, unless his form improves.

And, that now seems to have prompted his exit, with the Mail on Sunday claiming that a move to Qatar with Michael Laudrup’s Lekhwiya is close.
