The Metro are reporting that after initial contact between the two clubs, Manchester United have made their first formal bid for Gareth Bale.

Reports are suggesting the fee is somewhere in the region of £46million as Manchester United look to bring the Welshman back to the Premier League.

After a very impressive first season at the Bernabeu, Bale has struggled in the iconic white shirt this season. Though his stats suggest Bale has actually enjoyed a decent campaign, his body language on the pitch, the reception he’s received from the Madrid faithful and the deterioration of his relationship with the Spanish media have been the story of Bale’s season.

There have been many reports about Bale’s future, linking him with moves to Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United, but now United have made the first move. However, the offer is just over half the world-record fee Madrid paid for him in 2013.

While Bale may want to prove himself at Madrid, very few could completely ignore interest from United and if Madrid are able to at least re-coup most of the colossal transfer fee, the Welshman may opt to return to the Premier League and hopefully begin to once again enjoy the acclaim he received during his time at Spurs.
