Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is set for showdown contract talks with the club over a new and improved deal.

Walcott signed from Southampton as a 17-year-old in 2005 – and he’s already stacked up over 200 Premier League appearances for the Gunners.

According to recent reports, Walcott was tipped to leave the north London club in the summer but boss Arsene Wenger has recently claimed that he would stay.

“We are already talking to him,” said Wenger. “When you go into negotiations with a player it is with a desire for him to stay. He looks keen to do it and I am keen to do it, so let’s see what comes out.

“We are always in the mode where we want to be successful. In case of failure, we’ll see. But in case of failure – that will only be in December next year.”

Talks over a new deal are expected to gather pace after the upcoming FA Cup final against Aston Villa, but the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool will be watching on.
