A superb double from James Rodriguez saw Colombia advance to the quarter final stage over Uruguay to set-up a tie with World Cup hosts – Brazil.
Jose Pekerman’s side started the game well with Camilo Zuniga finding Jackson Martinez, who sent a powerful effort towards goal, which just went wide.
But despite his effort going wide, it served as a statement of intent from the Colombia side as they pressed Uruguay’s goal in the opening 20 minutes.
Colombia then took the lead just before the half hour mark when James Rodriguez produced arguably the Goal of the tournament so far, chesting down a long ball, before sending a superb volley in off the crossbar – leaving Fernando Muslera astonished.
Uruguay had very little chances, but could of levelled when Edinson Cavani came close but it was not going to be their day – as they suffered with the absence of Luis Suarez.
The second goal came in the second half when five players from Colombia were involved in a wonderful move.
Carlos Sanchez began the move before finding Juan Cuadrado, who in turn played in Martinez, leading to a superb cross from Pablo Armero.
Cuadrado would then be involved again as he nodded the ball back to the waiting Rodriguez, who tapped in from two yards.
