Non-league player Sam Grimshaw will continue on trial with Manchester United.

The 21-year-old Glossop North End full-back will continue to train with the Red Devils this summer as he hopes to secure a shock contract offer.

Having been offered a one-week trial with the Premier League side, Grimshaw will now return for pre-season training.

The defender, who plays as a left-back can also play in midfielder, played for Glossop at Wembley in the FA Vase final defeat to North Shields earlier this month.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “I got a call from my agent saying they wanted to take a look at me.

“It was brilliant news. It is a big opportunity of course with United and I have got to try and take the chance as I have always been a fan of the club.

“They asked me to go in for a one week trial and that was extended until the end of the season.

“Now they want me to go back in July. I cannot wait.”

Grimshaw began his career in Manchester City’s academy and has played for Altrincham.
