Premier League new-boys Bournemouth are interested in bringing Rickie Lambert back to the south coast, according to Daily Mirror.

Lambert quit Southampton last summer to make his dream move to Liverpool in a £4m deal but his time at the Anfield club has not been what he expected, having made limited appearances starting just seven league games and scoring just three goals.

A summer move is now expected with a number of lower Premier League clubs showing interest and it is new-boys Bournemouth who are leading the list of interested clubs.

Boss Eddie Howe believes that Lambert would be the perfect strike partner for pacey striker Callum Wilson, who netted 23 goals in the Championship this season.

Howe, who has been discussing his side’s achievements of late, said recently: “You need a balance but predominantly we will go British.

“Also we do not want any players who will upset the atmosphere in the dressing-room because that has been key to our success.”

Lambert scored 106 goals for Southampton in 207 games before moving to Merseyside.
