Real Madrid’s attempts to bring Jose Mourinho back to the club have failed, according to Sky Sports News.

Carlo Ancelotti’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu is almost over with reports in Spanish press claiming that the club’s board have now called time on his reign as manager, following a number of setbacks this season.

The Italian boss will always be remembered for bringing the La Liga giants their much anticipated 10th Champions League title, but failures to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey and retain the European title, have prompted a replacement to be discussed.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp is the number one candidate, whilst Napoli boss Rafael Benitez has also been linked.

But, according to Sky Sports, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been contacted on a number of occasions in recent weeks.

Mourinho’s return to Chelsea has been successful, seeing the Blues comfortably win the league this season and his ambitions to win the Champions League at Stamford Bridge has seen him reject the chance to return to the Spanish capital.
