United set to bid £34m for midfielder

Vidal

Manchester United are reportedly lining up a £34million bid for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

According to Italian source QS, the Red Devils are keen to pair the highly-rated Chile international with Spanish youngster Ander Herrera, who joined from La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao last week.

Holland head coach Louis van Gaal, who officially takes charge at Old Trafford when the national side’s World Cup adventure comes to an end, has set his sights on building a new-look engine room following last season’s woes.

The three-time European Cup winners finished seventh in the Premier League table, failed to lift a trophy and sacked David Moyes as boss, with the midfield often criticised for a lack of guile and flair.

QS claims Juve head coach Antonio Conte could be tempted to sell one of his star operators as he has an embarrassment of riches in the centre of the pitch and cannot fit all of them in to his 4-3-3 formation.

Vidal, who will feature for Chile in today’s knock-out clash with host nation Brazil at tea time, stood out for the Turin giants last term, helping them to successfully defend their Serie A title.

The 27-year-old still has three years left on his contract with Juve.
