Manchester United have been told that a swap deal including Mario Gotze and Angel Di Maria can go ahead.

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann was speaking to Goal.com when he confirmed that officials at the Allianz Arena were far from impressed with the World Cup final goalscorer.

Gotze, who joined Bayern from Borussia Dortmund two seasons back has failed to cement his place in their side and has played a bit part role for Pep Guardiola this season.

Hamann said: “Mario Gotze is badly out of form and has hardly contributed for Bayern Munich this season.

‘It would be best for the club and the player if he moved on this summer.”

Hamann then suggested that the club would be open to selling Gotze and allowing a potential swap deal for Argentine forward Angel Di Maria to materialise.

He added: “Bayern will want to get back roughly what they paid for Gotze but whether anyone is willing to cop a £30m fee is another matter.

‘There has been talk of a swap with Manchester United for Angel Di Maria.

‘Whether that is likely I don’t know, but Di Maria is the type of player Bayern need, and they have to bring in players of his calibre.”
