Manchester United are in advanced talks with Southampton to sign Nathaniel Clyne and have upped their offer to £18 million.
United have been linked with a summer deal for Clyne, forcing current club Southampton to desperately offer a new contract to the England full-back.
Speculation over a move to Old Trafford grew last month when Daily Mirror reporter David McDonnell claimed a deal worth £17m had been agreed between the two Premier League clubs.
But it is understood that such a deal has now been increased with United being told they must pay £18m.
Clyne is expected to seal a move to Louis van Gaal’s side, where he will fill the void at right-back, a position occupied by Antonio Valencia and at times – Ashley Young, this season.
The defender will follow the likes of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren to have left St Marys in the last 12 months.
