‘We never wanted Depay’ claims Liverpool boss Rodgers

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has dismissed reports that his club missed out on Dutch star Memphis Depay, who has chosen to join Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United.

Liverpool were linked with Depay for a considerable amount of time, but the 21-year-old has joined Premier League rivals Manchester United instead. However, Rodgers has denied that the Reds missed out on his signature.

He said: “Unfortunately for you guys it’s something we was never interested in. Depay is a young talented player but we already have four wingers at the club – Raheem Sterling, Jordan Ibe, Adam Lallana and  Lazar Marković. We have other priorities we are looking at over the course of the summer.”

Liverpool are still expecting a busy summer, and Rodgers’ side have been linked with numerous summer targets already.

The Merseyside club are still competing with Manchester United for the final Champions League spot – but Liverpool sit four points off the Red Devils, with just three Barclays Premier League games remaining.
