Arsenal to use forward to bring William Carvalho to the Emirates

The highly-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder has long been on the radar of Arsene Wenger with the clubs failing to agree a fee – but Joel Campbell could be the pawn Wenger uses to push the deal over the line.

Arsenal reportedly made a bid for Carvalho, which was said to be around £22million, but it was rejected by the Portuguese side.

The Sporting midfielder has put together a string of impressive performances this season and could be the answer to Arsenal’s troubles filling the gap in front of the back four.

Joel Campbell definitely used the 2014 World Cup in Brazil to showcase his talents in a bid to push his way into the Arsenal first team. However, he young forward was sent out on loan to Villarreal this season where he is yet to score.

Despite this, the Portuguese media claim that Sporting Lisbon are admirers of the young Costa Rican international, meaning he could be used as part of any future attempts to bring Carvalho to North London.
