Former Tottenham Hotspur favourite Rafael van der Vaart could be set for a return to his former club Ajax, according to his agent.

The Dutchman is out of contract in the summer, and is expected to make the move away from struggling Hamburger SV at the end of the season. The midfielder, who is now 32, has been linked with a number of clubs, including a move to the MLS.

Van der Vaart spent two very successful years at White Hart Lane, before making a return to Hamburg in August 2012. The attacking midfielder hit 24 goals in 63 appearances for the north London club. But it looks as though a Premier League return is not on the cards for the Dutch star.

The Hamburg skipper’s agent Robert Geerlings believes the playmaker could head back to his homeland to return to Ajax, the club he first left back in 2005. Geerlings told De Telegraaf: “Ajax is a serious option, but now he is only concerned about saving Hamburg from relegation.”

Hamburg are just one point above the drop zone in the Bundesliga, with just three games remaining.
