Manchester United are expected to make a £20m bid for Ezequiel Garay if they fail to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.
Spanish website Fichajes.net claim the Argentina centre-back is thought to be desperate to leave Russia, and a move to the Premier League is top on the 28-year-old’s priority list.
Louis van Gaal, who is said to be a long-term admirer of the Argentine defender, is reportedly being given a huge war chest in the summer, which could pave the way to a £18.5m bid to bring Garay to Old Trafford if he fails to sign Hummels.
Hummels is reported to have agreed a deal in principle to join United this summer from Dortmund but those reports seem to have now been deemed false by the Bundesliga club.
The Argentina international has spent just one season at Zenit since arriving from Benfica in June 2014.
