Newcastle United boss John Carver did not offer his resignation on Monday, according to Newcastle Evening Chronicle and Sky Sources.

Carver met with Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley and senior players on Monday after reports of uncertainty after a 3-0 defeat to Leicester City at the weekend.

However, despite reports claiming he did so, Carver did not offer his resignation during the meeting, nor was he asked to walk away.

Derby County boss Steve McClaren has been tipped to take the job at St James Park in recent weeks, but a source has told Sky Sports this week that the former England boss refused to talk with the Premier League side.

Carver was placed in temporary charge of Newcastle following Alan Pardew’s departure for Crystal Palace in January but Saturday’s defeat to Leicester was the club’s eighth in succession.
