Chelsea will look to sign Rickie Lambert this summer after missing out on Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho had been heavily interested QPR striker Austin in recent weeks and was keen to sign the Englishman to replace Didier Drogba, who is edging closer and closer to retirement.

However, the 25-year-old now seems set to join Liverpool after tentative talks with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Austin has been in impressive form this season and has netted 17 Premier League goals for a struggling QPR side.

Chelsea’s failure to lure the £10m rated striker to Stamford Bridge has now prompted the Champions to look at the possibility of signing Rickie Lambert, who has failed to make an impact at Anfield since he moved last summer from Southampton.

Lambert is said to be keen on a summer move and is available at a cut price after failing to make the grade under Rodgers.
