Liverpool are set to sign Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya, according to reports from Fichajes.net.

The Spaniard has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the past – and it now looks as though Brendan Rodgers’ side have rekindled their interest in the defender.

With Glen Johnson out of contract and expected to move on in the summer, Liverpool have wasted no time in finding a suitable replacement for the experienced right-back.

Montoya has been out of favour at the Camp Nou, making just seven La Liga appearances this term. The 24-year-old is said to be keen on a move to Merseyside, and the reports suggest Montoya has already agreed terms.

Rodgers has admitted that his club need to dip into the transfer market in the summer, after failing to capitalise on a second place finish last year.

The Reds are currently four points off of Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United, who occupy the last Champions League place.
