Inter chasing Cardiff star

Medel

Inter Milan are reportedly preparing an offer for Cardiff City midfielder Gary Medel.

According to Italian source Tutto Mercato Web, the 26-year-old has been identified by head coach Walter Mazzarri as a key acquisition in the summer transfer window.

He has impressed for Chile at the heart of the engine room during their eye-catching World Cup campaign in Brazil, and he is expected to feature in tomorrow’s knock-out clash with the host nation.

Medel was a virtual ever-present for the Bluebirds last season, making 35 appearances for the Welsh outfit, who were ultimately relegated from the Premier League.

Their Championship status puts them in danger of losing the player, who became their club record signing when he joined from Sevilla for £11million.

Cardiff are unlikely to stand in Medel’s way if Inter firm up their interest with an official bid, as long as it matches their valuation of the player.

Mazzarri is said to be keen on his no-nonsense style of play and feels it would provide an effective foil for the likes of flair players Hernanes and Mateo Kovacic.

The San Siro giants are ready to invest in their squad after missing out on Champions League qualification during an inconsistent 2013-14 campaign.
