Real Madrid have asked Manchester United for an extension on the deadline to activate their purchase option on loan star Javier Hernandez, according to Mexican network TDN.

Hernandez has just started to find his feet at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, and it now looks as though Carlo Ancelotti wants more time to decide on whether he wishes to keep the Mexico international at the club.

Chicharito was loaned out to Real Madrid at the start of the season, after he was deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Louis van Gaal. It may have taken Hernandez quite some time to settle into his new surroundings, but he has recently become a hero in the Spanish capital over the last few weeks, thanks to a string of important goals.

The 26-year-old’s recent run of good form has prompted interest from elsewhere – but Hernandez is said to be happy in Madrid, and Ancelotti’s side are favourites to land him on a permanent deal.
