Aston Villa’s attacking midfielder Carles Gil, who only arrived at Villa Park in January, is set for crunch talks with Tim Sherwood on his Villa future, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Gil was a £3.2m Paul Lambert signing from Valencia in January – but Lambert’s successor Tim Sherwood doesn’t seem to favour the 22-year-old.

Since Sherwood’s arrival, Gil has only featured once in the Premier League, and in the last couple of minutes of Aston Villa’s FA Cup win against West Bromwich Albion in March.

The ex-Spain U21 international impressed whilst on loan at Elche, and his performances for Valencia at the start of the season prompted Lambert to pay over £3m for his services.

Villa have had somewhat of a mini-revival under new boss Sherwood. However, the Villans are far from safe from relegation, as they currently sit just two points off the drop zone in 16th place. Villa will be hoping for a vital three points on Saturday, as they welcome the ever-improving Everton to Villa Park.
