Manchester City are trying to persuade Patrick Viera to remain at the Etihad Stadium amid reports of Marseille being keen on the former Arsenal skipper as a successor to Marcelo Bielsa at the Stade Velodrome, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.

Viera has been at Manchester City since 2010. The former France international finished his playing career with the Citizens and went into a Football Development Executive coaching role. In 2013 he was announced as Manchester City’s new reserve team and Elite Development squad manager.

Marcelo Bielsa has been tipped to leave Marseille in the summer, and the French club have lined up Viera as a possible replacement.

Viera is thought highly of at City, and the club are said to be desperate in keeping the 1998 World Cup winner at the Etihad for the foreseeable future.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are set to give up their Premier League crown, as Chelsea need just one more win to secure the title.
