Ferdinand: Time to bring back Pogba

Former Manchester United skipper Rio Ferdinand wants to see his old club re-sign midfielder Paul Pogba from Serie A champions Juventus.

The coveted France international departed from Old Trafford in 2012 after failing to break into the first-team under then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and he has since established himself as one of the hottest properties in European football.

While the Red Devils received only a modest compensation fee for losing the player when his contract expired, he is now valued in excess of £40million, in stark contrast to his low key exit from the Premier League two years ago.

Despite the 21-year-old leaving the club under something of a cloud after refusing to put pen to paper on a contract extension, ex-England international Ferdinand would love to see him back at United during the summer transfer window.

After admitting on Twitter that he “really likes” Pogba’s team-mate in Juve’s midfield engine room, Arturo Vidal, he added: “Pogba is better value for money now though.”

When one of his followers questioned the merit of spending up to £50m on him, Ferdinand replied: “In today’s market, I’d fly over & headlock him to sign up!”

Ferdinand left United on a free transfer at the end of the 2013-14 campaign.
