Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has rued his side’s missed chances after being held by West Bromwich Albion 0-0 on Saturday afternoon, whilst Tony Pulis said he was pleased with his side’s resilience.

Jordan Ibe came closest over 90 minutes when his second half striker crashed off the woodwork, before James Morrison had the Baggies best chances.

However, neither side was able to break the deadlock, seeing the game end with a share of the points, which is better suited to the West Midlands’ side and the former Stoke City boss reflected on his side’s performance.

Pulis told reporters: “Liverpool were very good in the last 20 minutes. The lads showed a lot of resilience and we are very pleased. We are pleased to get out and get another point.

“We had our share of chances but we will take the point. We had a poor set of results here before this game and that was down to the mentality more than anything – when people say we are safe with this and that.

“We are not good enough to take our foot off the pedal we have to be 100% all the time.”

Meanwhile, under pressure Rodgers blamed his side’s poor finishing for the result and said Liverpool must now rely on other teams around them to qualify for the Champions League.

He told reporters: “We created opportunities, our only downfall was taking those chances but that has been a problem over the course of the season. I thought the players were outstanding, their courage and play on the ball. Across the team there were some outstanding performances.

“We have a game in hand and we have to chase that and fight for that but if the players play like they did today nine times out of 10 they would win. We will take this confidence into the midweek game.

“We have to rely on other teams, but we can only do our job and that is still the plan.”
