Argentina superstar Sergio Aguero is ruled out of the remainder of the World Cup tournament after suffering a torn hamstring in yesterday’s fixture against Nigeria.

The 26-year-old Manchester City striker was taken off the pitch during the first half of the Argentina v Nigeria clash and it has been confirmed there is no possibility of continuing in the competition owing to the severity of his injury.

This news comes as a major blow to Argentina who will now look to Aguero’s team mate, Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, to take full responsibility for goal-scoring in the remainder of their World Cup campaign.

Aguero is unlikely to be surprised to find himself side-lined again. The player has endured an injury-inflicted season at Man City owing to a collection of problems with his hamstring, knee and calf.

Despite skipping fixtures and suffering inconsistency of fitness, the Argentine continued to impress City boss Manuel Pellegrini and prove himself a naturally gifted goal-scorer.

His performances and results speak for themselves – 17 goals in 23 Premier League appearances, six goals in six Champions League appearances and four goals in three FA Cup fixtures.
