Manchester City will appoint Patrick Vieira, should Pep Guardiola reject the chance to replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad stadium, accoridng to La Parisien.

Media reports in England and across Europe claim that City are already short-listing replacements for Pellegrini, who has failed to improve their standing in the Champions League and fail to keep the pace with Chelsea in the Premier League.

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola is seen as the ideal replacement and City director of football Txiki Begiristain, who worked with the former Barcelona coach previously, is fully confident he can land the Catalan coach.

However, if those plans fail, it is reported that Patrick Vieira will be the man chosen to succeed the Chilean coach.

The Frenchman has been working in the background at City for some-time and has played a big part in their youth structure.

Vieira captained Arsenal during his playing days and was a leading pretender in their ‘Invincibles’ side in 2004
