Liverpool have been reported to have made an offer for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi and have jumped ahead of Arsenal, according to reports.

The midfielder is looking likely to quit the La Liga side after struggling to secure a regular place in the Real squad.

Premier League side Arsenal have been suggested with links for the player, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said to be an admirer of the 25-year-old, but now reports say the Reds have put forward an offer to secure his services.

The details are not yet clear but reports have previously suggested Madrid want a fee of £23m for the Spaniard, who is eager to ply his trade in the Premier League.

Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool side are currently fifth in the Barclays Premier League having accumulated 57 points, with Arsenal in second on 66 points.
