Chelsea’s audacious £100m bid for Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane has been rejected by the Spanish club.

Welsh winger Bale has been strongly linked with a move back to the Premier League this season after some rather subdued performances which have led to numerous show of annoyance from the club’s fans.

Whilst, French defender Varane has struggled to find first team football, ahead of the Sergio Ramos and Pepe.

Manchester United have been linked with both, with boss Louis van Gaal keen to bolster his attacking and defensive options next season, whilst league leaders Chelsea have also made moves to attempt a summer bid.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is said to have put feelers out to his former club over a potential £100m summer bid for the talented duo.

However, reports in Spanish press now claim that those advances from Mourinho have been strongly rejected.

The Portuguese coach has a strong relationship with Varane after handing him his debut whilst in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu and he is a keen admirer of Bale.
