Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas has claimed he would remain at the club, even if they sign a new keeper this summer.

Talk of Manchester United stopper David De Gea continues to develop in the Spanish capital and some reports earlier this week claimed that a deal had been agreed by all parties.

Other names such as Asmir Begovic of Stoke City and Hugo Lloris of Tottenham Hotspur have also been mentioned in discussion over the number one spot at Madrid.

However, Casillas, is keen to push whoever comes in for the starting role.

“I hope to fulfil my contract and a commitment that is signed has to be signed until the end,” he told AS, “but I have to earn it and train myself for it. I will strive and I will fight for the position.

“Now I am at an age at which things are seen in a different way so, if I am not the starter, I will have a commitment with the younger ones.

“Why wouldn’t I continue at Madrid if I am not the starting goalkeeper?”
