Southampton and Newcastle United are battling it out to sign Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie, according to reports in Holland.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman is fully aware of the club’s willingness to sell their top performers after seeing the likes of Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert leave last summer before he arrived at the club.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne are now expected to depart with Arsenal and Manchester United expected to make moves, respectively.

And, it is being reported that the Dutch boss is keen on making a move for young midfielder Clasie.

The 23-year-old has been in impressive form this season for Feyenoord and has made 31 appearances for the Eredivisie side.

Newcastle United are also keen and are keen to swap Vurnon Anita and cash for the £7m rated Netherlands international.
