Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has said that Manchester United are torn over a making a permanent move for striker Radamel Falcao.

United signed the Colombian international on a loan deal in September, and still hold the option of securing him on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

A sum of £43.5m has been agreed, but United remain unsure whether or not to activate the deal after seeing the former Atletico Madrid star fail to make the grade in English football.

“I saw Manchester United’s board last Sunday & they’ve not decided whether to use Falcao’s purchase clause,” he told Nice Matin. “It’s not his best season, but they kept the opportunity to make a decision at the end of the season.

“We are not in other negotiations at the moment, even if other clubs are interested,” he added. “The decision is with Manchester United.”

Vasilyev then touched on the reasons that Falcao left Monaco, claiming that he fell out with Italian boss Claudio Ranieri.

“He had mishaps in Monaco: he had problems with the coach, there was a misunderstanding and he was also seriously injured and missed the World Cup,” he said. “In late August, he came to tell us that he wanted to play at a high level.”
