Abou Diaby is set to be offered a pay as you play contract at Arsenal, despite making limited appearances this season.

Diaby has only made 22 appearances in the past four seasons, but has nevertheless stayed on the Arsenal payroll and has been hinted to continue to do so, with boss Arsene Wenger claiming earlier this year a new deal could be offered.

“I had a chat with him and told him how I can envisage the future,” said Wenger.

“He has to make a decision. Of course he understands completely that he has to perform and to show that he can be present on a consistent way.

“I will see where we go from there. I wouldn’t like to go into details, we have to meet again to see where we go from what I told him.”

The 28-year-old has struggled since a career threatening ankle injury while he also suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury and this season has seen a series of abortedcomebacks.

However, it is understood that a pay-as-you-play deal will now be offered in the coming days to the Frenchman.
