Liverpool are on the brink of signing Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri with reports stating his agent is Merseyside-bound to continue transfer negotiations that commenced earlier this month.

Swiss International Shaqiri, who stunned with a hat-trick last night in Switzerland’s 3-0 defeat of Honduras in the World Cup tournament, has kept the Reds fired-up and keen to strike a deal with his strong displays of form in Brazil.

Although the young playmaker is a key man for the Swiss national team, having gained 34 international caps for the senior team by the age of 22, he has not featured heavily at club level this past season.  He made just 17 appearances in Bayern Munich’s league campaign, just ten of which were starts.

A player nicknamed “the Alpine Messi,” Shaqiri demonstrates versatility and creativity on the ball.  He plays on the left or right wing, sometimes as an attacking midfielder, and has an eye for a goal – he scored six times for Munich in the Bundesliga competition.

Liverpool look to bring the player to Anfield for the start of their 2014/2015 domestic and European campaigns and a deal in excess of £16M is expected to be finalised in the coming days.
