Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is keen to make a summer move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Jurgen Klopp’s announcement earlier this week that he leave the German club in the summer has seen a number of their top players linked with a summer exit.

Marco Reus, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and others are expected to leave, whilst Mats Hummels has reportedly agreed terms with United over a summer move.

Joining Hummels could be German midfielder Gundogan, who the Old Trafford side have showed interest in before.

The midfielder has been a distant figure in European football in recent seasons after struggling for fitness following a back problem which ruled him out for 14 months.

However, his return to action has further prompted a number of European clubs to show interest and despite reports claiming he was close to a new and improved deal with the German club; it is now unsure if he will remain at Signal Iduna Park.

Man United have long been interested in the German international and are keen to pursue a cut-price move this summer, moving on the fact that he contract is due to expire in 2016.
