Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly ready to go head-to-head to sign Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain in the summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The forward, who has been linked with moves to Premier League sides Liverpool and Arsenal in recent years, is being reported to leave Napoli as they look unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The Gunners had come close to landing the Argentina international in 2013, and with United looking to bolster their attacking options in preparation for next season, the Red Devils will be keen on bringing him to Old Trafford in the summer.

Both clubs are monitoring the 27-year-old and, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, are considering a summer bid for the former Real Madrid forward, who has scored over 20 goals this term.

But the clubs may have to splash the cash in-order to land the striker as Napoli will not be wanting to lose their star goalscorer.

Arsenal are currently second in the Barclays Premier League having accumulated 66 points, one point ahead of Manchester United in third.
