Italy winger set to snub new contract

SS Lazio v ND Mura 05 - UEFA Europa League Play-off Round

In-demand Lazio winger Antonio Candreva will reportedly turn down a lucrative new contract offer in an attempt to engineer his exit from Rome.

The Italy international is, according to Il Messaggero, the subject of strong interest from cash-rich Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain as well as Serie A rivals Juventus and Napoli.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has put together a fresh deal for the 27-year-old which would see him pick up more than £2million per year, but the report claims he will inform his representatives to reject it out of hand.

He has four years remaining on his current contract.

Candreva, who is still reeling from Italy’s group stage exit in the World Cup following successive 1-0 defeats to Costa Rica and Uruguay respectively, has made it clear that he wants to test himself in the Champions League – something his current club cannot offer.

Juventus, who successfully defended their domestic title last season, are said to be leading the hunt for the wideman as head coach Antonio Conte looks to bolster his squad ahead of an assault on Europe’s leading club competition next term.

They have been frequently impressed by Candreva, who scored 12 goals in 42 appearances for Lazio in the 2013-14 campaign.
