Manchester United are considering a move for Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic as their interest in Kevin Strootman seems to have vanished.

United boss Louis van Gaal is a big admirer of Dutch midfielder Strootman but his recent injury problems which have seen him make limited appearances for Italian side Roma over the past year have now added question marks to a potential summer move.

Van Gaal is keen to bolster his midfield options and relieve the pressure on the likes of Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera, who have been relative mainstays in United’s midfield this season.

Interest now seems to have turned to another Roma midfielder – Miralem Pjanic, who has been gaining interest from a number of top European sides this season.

Liverpool have been extremely keen on the Bosnian midfielder and will join United in watching closely over the coming weeks as he sits down with Roma officials to discuss his future at the club.

It is understood that Strootman will remain at Roma to recuperate, however, United are still mulling over a potential cut-price deal.
