United plot move for Inter midfielder

Guarin

Manchester United could make a move for Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin, according to fresh reports in the Italian media.

Tutto Mercato Web claims the Serie A outfit are considering the possibility of cashing in on the highly-rated Colombia international, with plans to demand around £14million.

The report reveals the San Siro giants will not consider any swap deals for the 27-year-old as they need the money in order to fund incoming transfers during the coming weeks.

Owner Erick Thohir is determined to see his ambitions matched after a rocky 2013-14 campaign in which the team failed to secure qualification for the Champions League.

Guarin is said to have three options in front of them, with United one of the clubs in the queue to secure his signature.

The Red Devils are believed to have a financial advantage over Guarin’s fellow suitors and if they firm up their interest they are in a position to meet Inter’s valuation.

New head coach Louis van Gaal will officially start work at Old Trafford when his Holland side’s World Cup adventure comes to an end, but business is being done in his absence.

Italian champions Juventus are also keeping an eye on the situation, having almost bought the player during the January transfer window.

La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid have already made contact with Inter and could yet lead a bidding war as they look to build on a superb previous season, which saw them win the domestic title and finish Champions League runners-up.
