Manchester United could be set to sign Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne after Ronald Koeman confirmed he could lose the England international.

United’s interest in the defender has been heavy this season as boss Louis van Gaal continues to search for improvements in his defensive area.

Chelsea have also held interest in the youngster, but United are now buoyed after a week in which Clyne has rejected another deal at Southampton and Koeman has admitted he could leave the club.

“We are still trying to keep Clyne in the club. We know it’s not easy as maybe there is some interest,” Koeman told BBC Radio Solent .

“At the moment, there is not a serious bid for whichever player in the team, but we’ll do everything to keep them.”
