Loic Remy is wasted at Chelsea and should have signed for Arsenal, according to the man who sold him – Harry Redknapp.

The striker was on the brink of a move to Liverpool from his former club Queens Park Rangers but then the Reds pulled out at the 11th hour, and the France international went on to join Chelsea for a fee in the region of £8m.

Premier League rivals Arsenal were also interested in the 28-year-old before his switch to the Blues and Redknapp, who made his exit from Loftus Road in January, believes that a move to the Gunners would have been a better destination for his former striker.

“I got a phone call on the Saturday before the transfer window shut saying that he had done a deal with Chelsea. Arsenal were in for him as well, we had Arsenal and Chelsea trying to sign him and he chose Chelsea,” Redknapp told reporters.

“I was surprised he went to Chelsea, I thought he’d go to Arsenal. I could see Arsenal, but I couldn’t really see Chelsea because I thought “he’s not going to play there”.

“It’s a waste really, it’s a bit of a waste of a real Premier League goalscorer. I don’t know what persuaded him to be number two at Chelsea. I thought Arsenal, where he would have played more, would be his move at the time.”
