Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has claimed that ‘nobody is happy’ at Napoli after Wednesday night’s defeat to Lazio in the Coppa Italia.

Napoli hosted Lazio in the second leg of their cup match but they crashed out, leaving Benitez to rue his side’s missed chances and he has since claimed that the morale in the camp is at an all-time low.

“We just lacked a goal,” Benitez told Rai Sport. “Congratulations Lazio for qualifying. We had seven chances to score, didn’t take them and the other team took their chance.

“I think getting to the semi-final and the Europa League quarter-final is nothing to be sniffed at. The attitude of the team and the chances we create are obvious. What did club president Aurelio De Laurentiis say? Well, nobody is happy.”

The former Liverpool boss will see his current deal expire at the end of the season, prompting various links with a return to the Premier League.

Reports on Sunday in English and Italian press claimed that Benitez was expected to be sacked following a poor run of results, but rather than sack the Spanish boss, the Serie A club will allow him to leave in June.
