Have Chelsea all but secured the Premier League crown?

The stand out side of this years campaign Chelsea are edging ever nearer to becoming champions following another blow for Manchester City against Crystal Palace last night, but are the assumptions of a Chelsea success a little premature?

Now nine points ahead of closest rivals Arsenal with a game to spare, most people seem to have already crowned them their first domestic title since the 2009-10 season. However there are still games to play and this Chelsea team will be ignoring the hype and be fully focused on their remaining matches.

This is a team that last season faltered during the latter part of the season, with crucial defeats to Sunderland and Aston Villa some standout losses.

To get over the line Chelsea will have to win these types of games and they also have three very tricky fixtures against Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

An in-form Arsenal team, who have won their last seven matches in the league consecutively are being spearheaded by talisman Oliver Giroud and look a very dangerous side. Jose Mourinho’s team still have to travel to the Emirates Stadium in a clash of the top two sides.

Elsewhere Manchester United have started to fall in to gear under Louis van Gaal and as a result they have overtaken neighbours City into third place, a home fixture against a United side who are hitting form at the right time should prove difficult.

Their remaining run-in looks equally as tough on paper, with the recent rivalry making their encounter with Liverpool a tough one, as well as tricky away games at Leicester, QPR and West Brom.

Add to the equation the recent injury to top scorer Diego Costa, it may be a hard push to the finish line for the Blues.

The bookmakers make them comprehensive favourites for the title and rightfully so given the table, but crazier things have happened in the Premier League and Chelsea know they still need points on the board.
