Two goals from Ander Herrera and a wonder-goal from Wayne Rooney secure three points for Manchester United against Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

Following the week break for the Euro 2016 qualifiers and friendly games, the game saw a penalty appeal within five minutes after Rooney was brought down in the box by Ciaran Clark, who had an arm around Rooney’s neck. However, Referee Roger East and his assistant denied Manchester United their spot kick.

United continued to put pressure on Villa with advances from Mata and Ashley Young failing to find the back of the net, although Villa had chances with Agbonlahor and Christian Benteke having shots on goal, yet United kept testing the Villa defence, dominating the first half.

Marcus Rojo had an impressive, long range effort tipped over the bar by Villa keeper Brad Guzan.

Finally, Blinds pass to Ander Herrera in the box found the back of the net in the 43rd minute, breaking the deadlock.

The second half saw Fellani almost double the Man United lead, but the Belgian’s low header was saved by Brad Guzan.

United’s second goal came in the 78th minute from Wayne Rooney. Angel di Maria passed the ball into the box, who found Rooney. Rooney’s one touch brought the ball under control and followed up with a spectacular volley into the goal.

However, only a minute later, Villa fought back with a Joe Cole’s corner finding Christian Benteke who tucked the ball away underneath De Gea, into the back of the net.

Although, additional time provided United with their third goal, with Juan Mata finding Ander Herrera who scored his second goal of the day, securing the win for Manchester United.

The win takes Manchester United to third place, with their Manchester rivals dropping to fourth this evening.
